Ingredients

Scale

For the Beef and Peppers:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or thinly sliced steak)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup bell peppers, thinly sliced (red, green, or yellow)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 2 cups cooked white or brown rice

For the Sauce:

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (or coconut aminos for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional for extra depth)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (or honey)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)

For Garnish:

  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped

Instructions

1. Cook the Beef:

  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the ground beef and cook for 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spoon until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.

2. Sauté the Vegetables:

  • Add the onion, bell peppers, garlic, and ginger to the skillet.
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are slightly softened.

3. Make the Sauce:

  • In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, red pepper flakes, and sesame oil.
  • Pour the sauce over the beef and peppers, stirring to coat.
  • Mix the cornstarch slurry into the skillet and let simmer for 2-3 minutes, until the sauce thickens.

4. Serve:

  • Spoon the beef and pepper mixture over cooked rice.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
  • Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use Different Proteins: Swap the beef for ground turkey, chicken, or tofu for a variation.
  • Make it Low-Carb: Serve over cauliflower rice instead of white rice.
  • Spicy Kick: Add more red pepper flakes or a drizzle of sriracha for extra heat.
